The local elections, which will be held on 28th of March 2004, are continuing to be the main political agenda in Turkey. ESP is the only revolutionary alternative to the bourgeois regime parties and policies, bourgeois and petty bourgeois reformist parties and their campaigns in the elections. ESP holds the flag of socialism up on the high through its revolutionary will and action, socialist identity and independent candidates.
The candidates of ESP have announced their declaration for the local elections by organising a press con- ference on 16th of February 2004. In this declaration, they expressed to the public opinion why are they participating to the elections and what are their aims.
They said:
"(85) it is not something secret; only the class struggle will bring the liberation of workers and labourers from the system of exploitation and from its cities which are serving as pressurizing machineries of the repression and exploitation. A new city and a decent life will come by a revolution that overthrows the bourgeois hegemony. (85) We became candidates in order to raise the class struggle and to transform the local opportunities into levers of the liberation struggle of the working class and oppressed people.
(85) Elections are forming the special moment of the struggle for freedom and socialism against imperialism, capitalism and fascist dictatorship."
In this "special moment", Marxist Leninist Communists are acting from the basic point and policy of politicisation of the labourers and advancing their political organisation and political action. Be-cause, it is not the principal aim of the local elections to do services in the cities under the conditions of capitalism. The organisation of the class struggle is the most important one. Therefore, leaning on to the power of the working class and the labourers and deepening their breaking off from the regime and regime parties, and leading those to act are the only real things.
Through declaration, communists are also showing a political and ideological stance against the illusions that wanted to be formed by the petty bourgeois reformist forces such as creating sample councils.
With their revolutionary will, spirit and energy, ESP candidates and activists are conducting intense work just like ants as being the voice and representative of the working class, labourers, unemployed, poor, youth and women in factories, workplaces, suburbs and campuses. They are using the election period and its opportunities in order to raise the struggle for freedom and socialism against imperialist world order, fascism and capitalism through more then 50 election bureaus, hundred thousands of propaganda materials, posters, banners, leaflets etc. During their campaigns, the ESP activities are facing the fascist regime's police, gendarmerie, detentions, kidnappings and tortures. But, they always reply to the threats and repression by saying "you cannot stop us. Because, we are the people, we are revolutionaries".
The people from ESP those who participated in the regional demo of KESK have faced violent attacks of the fascist regime. Because, they have given the sign that they will disturb the colonialist fascist dictatorship through their political messages, vision and slogans in the demo. 35 of them were taken to detention and suffered torture. Later 6 of them have been imprisoned.
Marxist Leninist Communists will continue to announce political realities and carry the light of socialism to the workplaces, local markets, houses, cafe shops and demonstrations during the election period. They will continue to tear the curtain of lies. They will explain the corruptions, collaboration with the imperialist occupation and aggre-ssion, national dishonourableness and discrimination. They will continue to carry the consciousness of "being a class for itself" and to get organised to the working class and labourers.
During the elections, MLCP is calling with the slogan of "SOCIALISM for a new city and for a new life" upon the working class, labourers and all oppressed people, to take part in the liberation struggle.
