The meaning of the EU's enlargement in terms of the contradictions between the imperialists

10 more countries joined the EU on 1st May. So, the EU's area, consisting of 25 countries, exceeds to 3.965.861 square meters, the population increases to 451.137.000, and its gross national product increases to 8.803.443 US $. Thus, the EU becomes 2nd powerful economic integration after NAFTA. In many cases, it is a match for the US imperialism. EU will become a giant concerning territory and economic power. But it is still dwarf in politics and military. As long as the EU will remain only an economic integration and not an political union it will also stay weak in terms of military and politics. Certainly, EU has gained very important strategic positions by its enlargement in its rivalry with USA and Japan, but its enlargement by participation of new members also shows that it is going on distancing from being a political union.

The contradictions between the US imperialism and the EU imperialists became clearer after dispersion of the Soviet Union and the revisionist block. Both powers are openly conducting their struggle of competition. In order to be able to realize its Eurasian geopolitics, the US Imperialism considered Western Europe, and especially the EU, as an area it can use for establishing its hegemony in the 21st century and using it as a base by that. But in the meantime, it became clear that nothing developed the way it was planned and that the realization of this plans in future is very unlikely. The EU, as time has shown since the collapse of the Soviet Union, has acted against the US imperialism and in accordance with the hegemonic interests of the leading imperialist countries of the EU.

The American imperialism did not stay idly against this and tries to settle politically and militarily in all areas where the EU has shown interest. For example, EU's enlargement was responded by American imperialism by enlargement of the NATO.

As prime minister of France, Jacques Chirac stated, EU wants to become a world power. The German imperialism wants the EU to become a world power as well. In this point, both imperialist countries have got the same idea, but there are some obstacles which are not easy to solve before the EU may become a world power. All these obstacles, in the end, show themselves as the rivalry between the imperialists.

With the new EU members, now the EU and Russia became neighbours. Through the membership of Southern Cyprus, the EU has widen its borders till East-Mediterranean, and therefore to the Near and Middle-East. In the future, the EU's borders will widen until the Middle-East and Caucasus if Turkey will become a member, too.

As a conclusion:

The US Imperialism has already settled into the Eastern areas of the EU, located between the EU and Russia, which will be made members by 1 May. Its long-term objectives can be collected in a few points. In order to be able to establish a dominating position over the whole world in the 21th century, or to defend the current one, the US imperialism aims at:

1 - The US imperialism wants to use the East and South Europe's strategic position. It has the aim not to act from outside but wants to become a power within the EU in order to completely control on the one hand the enlargement of power of the EU, and of some imperialist countries like Germany and France, which are on the top of the EU on the other hand. This politics lead, even today, to tensions in the relations to the EU and are showing themselves as indicator of the rivalry struggle of the two powers.

2 - By settling in these areas, the US imperialism is aiming to control the relations between the EU and Russia, and to stop the possibility of a common movement against itself in the future of both powers, profiting from their neighbourhood.

3 - Furthermore, the US Imperialism aims to strongly control the Caucasus and Caspian Basin by using the opportunities that brought by the Afghanistan war and by military bases that it has established and will establish in Middle Asia, East and South Europe. This is an attitude against the EU and Russia.

EU's "East Enlargement" will sharpen the contradiction between the imperialists, but above all between the US imperialism and the EU imperialists and between EU-Russia and the USA.
