NATO was founded with the aim of protecting the oppressing and plundering world against socialism; against the producing socialist world system. Since its foundation, in the name of defence of the interests of its members, it has been organized and placed in order to serve the interests of the American imperialism. As the military organisation of the "cold war" it was confronted with the danger of loosing importance after the disbanding of the Soviet Union and the revisionist Bloc. However, this organization of war has been charged with still more extensive duties and has been strengthened as the force protecting worldwide the imperialist interests and oppressing the struggle for socialism, freedom and democracy. Together with its new members, NATO is a military institution they can't do without in the worldwide hegemony struggle of the American imperialism.

NATO, which is the military war organisation of the imperialist nations, is preparing its summit on 28th and 29th June in Istanbul, Turkey. The representatives of this war organisation who are threatening the working class and the oppressed peoples of the world, will meet in Istanbul to discuss about how to expand their imperialist hegemony over more regions, how to dissuade the working class and oppressed peoples from their aim of revolution and construction of socialism, how to break their resistance and to make them slaves and how to spread torture and massacres. During this summit of NATO, the imperialist war and torture machine, which aims at exterminating the leading and organised powers of the working class, US imperialism is going to let the member states discuss about how to put the 84Greater Middle East Project" into practice and will make them take the necessary politic and military decisions.

Within the context of the preparations for the summit, the imperialists and their lackey, the Turkish state, are exerting a lot of terror, are carrying out operations, are attacking pro-tests, arrest the protesters and torture them.

However, all revolutionary and progressive forces and especially the communists, are determined and in action in order to drive NATO into a corner in Istanbul. In this city where the soldiers of the 6th fleet were thrown into the sea in 1968, all groups of the society such as workers, toilers, women and the youth prepare themselves to stop NATO. Every day a lot of actions take place in many cities of our country.

Already months ago, MLCP gave the task to all the activists, to enlighten the masses about the imperialist war organisation NATO and its planned summit, to give them anti-imperialist consciousness and to mobilize them to take part actively in the struggle against NATO. In order to drive NATO into a corner and to put Istanbul in a place among the rows of the cities which became centres of resistance in the last years, MLCP acted with the perspective to bring together all progressive forces and working class organisations against NATO and to form a united front for action against NATO.

Foundation of Union against NATO and Bush

In order to offer resistance against the NATO summit, 112 trade unions, youth and women's groups, communist, revolutionary and democratic organizations came together to form the "Union against NATO and Bush". On 6th May, the anniversary of execution of the revolutionary leaders Deniz Gezmis, HFCseyin Inan and Yusuf Aslan by the fascist dictatorship, 2000 people met in Dolmabahce to announce the foundation of the Union against NATO and Bush. The platform tries to spread its matter everywhere with posters, leaflets, meetings, by collecting signatures and other kinds of informative activities and uses slogans like; "Imperialists and collaborators, don't forget the 6th fleet!" and 84Don't let NATO come through!".

Campaign of EKB (Toiling Women Union): 84Women can stop NATO!"

The toiling women who occupy an important place in the struggle against imperialist war and occupation started a campaign with the aim of stopping NATO. With this campaign of EKB under the slogan of 84Women can stop NATO!", they emphasize that NATO is the armed organisation of imperialism which makes women slaves. By stating "Women against slavery who want Iraqi women's sufferings to end, take our hands we have to act in solidarity with each others!", EKB is calling upon all women to participate actively in the resistance against the NATO summit.

Youth is determined to stop NATO with the spirit of the 1968

With the slogan 84Don't let NATO come through!" the rebellious spirit and the determination of the youth of 1968, the youth forms youth platforms, unions etc. and makes the resistance stronger. The youth uniting in platforms consisting of revolutionary and communist youth groups, is determined to teach the imperialist powers the lesson they deserve with its united power. Against the government`s attempts to divide up the power of the youth by closing universities earlier than usual, the communist youth invites all the young people to join the struggle against torturing, occupying, plundering and exploiting NATO. To increase the resistance of young people, the young communists, who play an active role in the youth`s struggle and organized themselves under the roof of Socialist Youth Associations ( SGD ), declared that they will take place at the front line of all demonstrations as they did on 22nd May in Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana and Balikesir and also on 13th March in Ankara.

The Socialist Platform of the Oppressed ( ESP ) carries anti-imperialist consciousness against NATO to the working people

After the determined attitude of ignoring all the bans of the government on Mayday demonstrations, ESP has become even stronger. On the evening of Mayday ESP has started enlightening people and mobilize them against NATO and it continues its activities incessantly. To carry anti-imperialist consciousness to the working class and the toiling masses, ESP orga-nizes wide range of propaganda and agitation activities. They also organize daily activities in the streets of many cities, which make governmentB4s aim to keep them suppressed pointless. Although the ones participating in this platform are being persecuted, attacked, arrested very often during their actions, ESP goes on spreading the resistance from city to city, from district to district and to bring the determined resistance of the working people to light and to orga-nize them against NATO.
