Under the leadership of the progressive, antifascist, revolutionary and communist forces a powerful and revolutionary fight has been waged against the summit of the war machine NATO which met in Istanbul in June. During that period, MLCP has been a rousing and leading force with its revolutionary will, its practical policy, its concrete slogans and appeals. It has played a leading role setting the fight's concrete goals linked to the tactical plans as well as developing different means and kinds to fight within every work field of the party. By its political foresight, orientation and action, MLCP has hold on rigidly to its revolutionary line and has lead its activities considering its aims and with the perspective of a leading party.

The USA wants to extricate itself from the quagmire they were caught in Iraq and hand over formally the leadership to the "Iraqis". They want NATO and the UN to participate in the occupation of Iraq. One of the two most important points on the agenda of the NATO summit in Istanbul was to put NATO among the occupiers of Iraq. The second issue is to decide about new duties for NATO within the scope of the Greater Middle East Initiative (GMEI) and to give Turkey and some other countries a special role.

The aim of both points is to make the war organization NATO to a means of the imperialists` hegemony fight and occupation in Iraq and the Middle East. But the occupation in Iraq is actually also an occupation supported by the NATO. Therefore, NATO will recognize today's barbarism, cruelty and plundering in Iraq which actually represents the cruelty against the Middle East's oppressed peoples. And NATO is practicing this in the Balkans and Afghanistan.

MLCP based its political activities and protests against the NATO summit on the fact being the Communist Party of a country to which it is given a special importance due to its geographical position and its special role within the GMEI, on the historical and political duties of the revolution in its own country and the Federative Union Democratic Middle East, on the aim to organize an unified anti-imperialist fight in the region and on the responsibility and the view of international protests and solidarity.

MLCP always stressed its thought and organized its protests in the way that the anti-imperialist fight and the fight against the globalization attacks has to change from being abstract to a fight with concrete aims. Regarding nowadays political conditions the anti-imperialist fight is concretely a fight against the occupation of Iraq and the GMEI. It is a fight against EU, IMF, WB and G-8. It is a fight against NATO.

At the same time, the anti-imperialist fight must be changed from purely protest to a fight that is based on concrete achievements and successful results. For example, the Turkish Parliament's plan to send soldiers to Iraq failed against expectations due to the reaction of the masses and the pressure created through the protests.

It was also achieved to develop the resistance against the NATO summit beyond purely protest; by means of the concrete demand "Disband NATO summit" it could be linked with the aim of "Driving NATO into a corner in Istanbul".

MLCP presented this way of approaching political resistance, its opinion and thoughts in other platforms against NATO, too and succeeded in being a dynamic and leading force which strengthened the anti-imperialist wave of resistance.

MLCP solved successfully its task as vanguard; to mobilize its own forces and to become a political leadership of the resistance against the NATO summit. The party's work was put to practice in every field and by all means and kinds of fighting.

Every field adhered to its aim of obstructing the NATO summit as a political reflex; in every single working field such as from youth work to women work, from working in the workers-districts until among workers in the factories, from cultural activities until newspaper and other media. And the resistance really succeeded in making them to put up for discussions the carrying out of the NATO summit. The imperialist masters became really frightened and worried.

Furthermore, it is worth mentioning that the reformist and pacifist powers proclaimed the justified revolutionary violent actions of the oppressed which strengthened the resistance against the NATO summit, their barricade fights and conflict with military forces at some places as "terror" and started panicking.

Reformist parties such as EMEP , D6DP and others which consider themselves as a proletarian party and the representatives of socialism attacked MLCP and other revolutionary parties and declared the oppressed people's violence as "vandalism". This attitude actually reflects their idea of a legalistic party construction and their reformist political lines.
