The Turkish bourgeoisie has been pestering with visits the door of the EU with its current name since 1963. It was kept waiting about 40 years in the waiting-room, but now the Turkish bourgeoisie has come to an agreement with the EU's imperialist powers. Turkey's way to join the EU is opened, but it's only opened. However, despite some deficiencies, Turkey is being announced as a "democratic" country through the "Progression Report" that was published recently. And thus, a fascist, murderer regime is being "acquitted".

The "Progression Report" named as "Decision of Recommendation" most probably will be approved at the EU leaders' summit that is going to be taking place on 17th December, and Turkey will be given a date for accession negotiations. Even if everything goes in order; Turkey's full membership to EU is not going to be realized before the year of 2014.

The "Westernization" adventure, which begun from the period of the Ottoman Empire, has reached the day by passing the steps of Turkey's membership application to the EEC (European Economic Community) with its name on those dates in 1963 and the Customs Union agreement in 1995.

On the question of Turkey's integration to the EU, the EU's imperialist powers are especially bringing the issue of democratic rights into the foreground. The EU's imperialists are taking out the torture from being a state-policy in one go. According to the EU's imperialist powers, the dictatorship has removed preventions before the freedom of speech and thought. Thus, Turkey becomes harmonized with the Political Criterions of Copenhagen in spite of "many deficiencies and insufficiencies".

The Political Criterions of Copenhagen are the political criterions of the EU imperialists. The EU, through these criterions, notes that it is democratic, acting in accordance with the rules of democracy. Well, whose is this democracy, which classes' democracy is it that we are talking about? The EU, which takes everything that is serving its own interests into the agenda, says nothing concrete except talking nonsense when it's come to working classes' right to speak, get organised and be in action. The EU, which makes a definition -supposing that as a great talent- that the "union rights have still fell astern of ILO's (International Labour Organisation) standards", is taking up the new Law on Work defined as a slavery law by the working class and labourers to the sky in the Progression Report.

The right to organise strikes -that is principally important in terms of the working class's rights and freedoms- is being put under restraint. The solidarity strike, strike to get rights, political strikes; right to organise strikes in general, have not been mentioned in the so-called EU attainments.

"The EU wants to prevent its own work-market from being seriously harmed". Therefore, they are putting reservations on the prevention of free-movement of labour into the Report. And this, once again, shows that the EU means freedom for the capital and goods. They are binding the free-movement of the labour to a need, but lifting all obstacles before the movement of capital and goods.

Through the Progression Report, we are also learning that the Kurdish question is being solved! According to the report, it is as if the colonial fascist dictatorship has taken up the necessary steps for the solution of the Kurdish question and the problem is only occurring because of some interruptions on putting it into practice. The ratification of the report and opening the road for Turkey in order to get a negotiation date shows that the EU imperialists and the colonialist fascist regime do not think differently on the Kurdish question. So, it is very clear that the continuation of the colonial status quo in Kurdistan also suits the EU's purpose.

The EU wants to reach the Middle East, Caucuses and the inside of Asia through Turkey. It does not want to leave the regions, which are important to combat for in terms of imperialist plunder and hegemony, to its competitors such as the USA, Russia and China. Therefore, in the Report, they are openly expressing that Turkey is a "model country" for the Middle Eastern countries. Turkey carries an enormous importance for the EU as being the storage of young and cheap labour and as being a great market. It is also important for the USA's and EU's rivalry in the region because of having a great army and therefore the EU wants to benefit from it.

The approval of the Report and "giving Turkey a date in terms of the start of negotiations" mean not guaranteeing the membership. The EU has declared that it can cancel the negotiations due to any reason. That means they will drop the membership if Turkey will make a step that is not suitable with the EU interests in its policies on the region and the world and if it will insistently continue to take sides with American imperialism.

The advancement of Turkey-EU relations as far as the level of giving a date for membership negotiations will also show the level of the EU-USA rivalry upon Turkey and the region. The EU wants a Turkey that is fully dependent of itself, and possibly it's going to delay the negotiation process until making Turkey dependent on itself totally. And the USA will do everything that is possible in order to not lose such an "ally". American imperialism does feel a need for one more Trojan horse, like Britain, within the EU. It does need this in order to make the EU powerless on world politics and to prevent it from forming a common foreign policy. Therefore it supports Turkey's EU membership. The EU imperialists also know very well why USA supports Turkey's EU membership.

Turkey's and the region's strategic importance, its' position in the imperialist geopolitics shows that Turkey's membership to the EU will depend on the course of contradictions between the EU and the USA.

As a result:

EU is a unity of monopolies. It is an integration that has been formed to be powerful in the rivalry against imperialist competitors. EU democracy is a democracy for monopolies. EU democracy means unemployment, exploitation, repression and plunder for the working class and labouring masses.

On the contrary of the illusions that are spread out by the reformists, the government and capitalist class, those who are taking part in the same front on the issue of EU membership, liberation is not in the EU. Membership to the EU is not going to bring democracy, employment opportunities and welfare to Turkey. The national and social liberation in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan can only be achieved through revolution. Therefore, the solution is revolution not the EU.
