Our party is of the opinion that the creation of the regional unity is an urgent task of the anti-imperialist forces especially to be fulfilled in those regions where the contradictions between the imperialists are culminating. This unity will be realised first of all in practice by the common anti-imperialist struggle that needs to be strengthened.

From December 1-2, six parties and organisations from four Balkan countries gathered in Sofia, Bulgaria to realise the 2nd conference of the workers and communist parties of the Balkan. Four more organisations were interested in participating, but could not attend the conference in Sofia for different reasons.
The 1st conference had taken place in Thessalonica in 2005 and was the first step to coordinate the anti-imperialist struggle on the Balkan during which different forces got to know each other and decided to strengthen the co-operation concerning the anti-imperialist struggle in future. Despite some common activities such as declarations on political incidents on the Balkans, solidarity messages sent to each other, a website and acting together at the 4th ESF in Athens the conference still had not managed to achieve the coordination of the struggles appropriate to the needs and to develop a common practice in the political fight. This was the result of the report on the activities of the conference read out after the opening of the conference in Sofia by the coordination committee. Following the vivid discussions lasting for two days and including several topics, a range of decisions were taken to activate the conference and strengthen the anti-imperialist struggle in the region. Among all, it was decided to hold discussion meetings with different topics in different countries. The first event will be organised in March in Istanbul, Turkey with the title "Chauvinism, racism and the anti-imperialist struggle". In addition, it was also decided to publish an electronic bulletin every three months, to organise a cultural festival in 2008 and to publish statements on current political incidents. Organising other forces for the conference was another important task in future that was stressed.
At the conference, attended by the Workers Party of Bulgaria -Communists and the Resistance Movement September 23, both from Bulgaria, Labour Party from Serbia, as well as the Maoist Communist Party and our party MLCP from Turkey/Northern Kurdistan and the Communist Organisation from Greece, not only reports on the situation and the fights in the countries were discussed, but many topics, too, that currently play an important role for the whole region. One important topic was the question of the independence of Kosovo and our stance concerning that; the opinions of the parties participating were quite different, as well as the US military bases in the region, the role of the EU as well chauvinism and racism broadly diffused and systematically fostered by the imperialists.
The conference also adopted different resolutions, among them the condemnation of the extensive wave of attack of the fascist Turkish dictatorship against the Kurdish people and the aggression against South Kurdistan; a solidarity message for Kemal Kutan, a revolutionary from Turkey who was arrested in Germany and faces the extradition to Turkey, as well as a solidarity message for the 10 September prisoners.
Our party has actively participated in the preparation and realisation of the 2nd Conference and considers this platform as an important step for strengthening the coordination of the anti-imperialist struggle in the region.
