The working class has known its class enemy which shows itself in these attacks with the collaboration of the bosses-government-police, by fighting and overcoming all barricades. By that, the working class understands its own power even more. 01 August 2008 / International Bulletin / No: 72 When the collective agreement negotiations led for five months by the union Belediye -Is in the name of more than its 10,000 members working at Istanbul Buyuksehir Council and the companies ISTON, ISFALT, BELBIM and KULTUR A.S. affiliated to the council ended with a disagreement, the workers decided to use their power from production. 3000 workers stopped working on July 17 and gathered at Edirnekapi. From there they marched to Buyuksehir Council and hanged up a banner on the building announcing their strike. However, when the workers made use of their democratic rights, they had to face attacks by the police with gas bombs and water cannons using tanks and barricades. The workers answered the attack with resisting and shouting the slogans "Never give up, always resist" and "Our right to strike cannot be banned". The workers overcame the barricades by fighting and gathered in front on the council hanging up their banner on which their decision of strike was written. On July 21, 500 workers who are members of the union Belediye-Is and who work at Kartal Council, Istanbul, organised a march by overcoming the barricades the police had put in front of them and hang up a banner on the council on which they declared their decision of strike. The attacks on the council workers were protested by many unions in Istanbul and by council workers in Izmir as well as anwered with class solidarity. In Istanbul KESK Branches' Platform, Tekstil-Sen and the ESP marched against the police barricades and did not let the council workers in their own. The AKP government who continues to apply the neo-liberal politics along with state terror has increased its attacks in order to oppress the rising struggle of the working class and prevent the development. The fascist dictatorship, that could not bear the working class going on the streets and raising its demands, brutally attacks the workers' actions such as strikes, demonstration and press conferences that were organised according to the laws. The attack on the shipyard workers who went on strike on February 27-28 at Tuzla and the leaders of the union Limter-Is , the state terror on Mayday, the attacks on the cleaning staff at Capa, the leather workers at Desa, the transport workers at Arcelik, the journalists of E-Kart, the members of the union Tumtis at Unilever and the attacks on the members and leaders of the union Tek Gida Is of Yorsan are only some examples of the state attacks on the working class leading a struggle for achieving rights. However, these attacks can not stop the struggle of the working class, in the contrary they make the workers even struggle more determined. As shown in the resistances against the attacks listed above, the working class continues with its struggle for rights by fighting more militant. The workers who are facing the state's police forces at every point when demanding their rights have understood that they have to fight not only against their bosses, but also against the state who attacks them together with the bosses. The working class has known its class enemy which shows itself in these attacks with the collaboration of the bosses-government-police, by fighting and overcoming all barricades. By that, the working class understands its own power even more.
