Deniz Gezmis, Mahir C7ayan and Ibrahim Kaypakkaya took their place in the history as the leaders of '71 Revolutionary Movement. When the development of revolutionary thoughts in our country in the years of 1960s' have united with the wind blown by the 68 Youth Movement, the struggle in militant revolutionary line also begun to develop in our country. The revolutionary leaders, who upraised against the reformist and parliamentary understanding of struggle and came to forefront in the youth movement, have organised different organisations in the beginning of 70s'. While Mahir Cayan and his comrades founded THKP/C (People's Liberation Party/Front of Turkey), Deniz Gezmis and his comrades THKO (People's Liberation Army of Turkey), Ibrahim Kaypakkaya and his comrades were founded TKP/ML (Communist Party of Turkey/Marxist Leninist).

Despite of being revolutionaries organised in different organisations, they opened a new era in the Turkish Revolutionary Movement. They represented an example for the ones coming after them by their commitment in the revolutionary struggle, militant attitudes, fighting against the regime directly, short but honourable lives, spirit of comradeship in the barricades and other characteristics.

When fighting against the common enemy, the fascist dictatorship, they have shown the most grateful examples of defending each other.

In order to stop execution of THKO leaders Deniz Gezmis, Huseyin Inan and Yusuf Aslan, who were captured by the fascist dictatorship, the THKP/C leader Mahir Cayan and his comrades have organised united action together with two comrades from THKO. When they have lost their lives in this united action on 30 March 1972, they have not only put the mark of revolutionary heroism on the history but also the consciousness of "comradeship in barricades". Ibrahim Kapakkaya, the leader of TKP/ML, has also shown another example of comradeship in barricades by punishing a village headman who informed the THKO militias to the police and caused their assassination.

When Mahir Cayan was killed together with other 9 revolutionaries on 30 March 1972 and when Deniz Gezmis, Huseyin Inan and Yusuf Aslan were executed on 6 May 1972, they all welcomed the death fearlessly and by shouting revolutionary and socialist slogans. Again, when Ibrahim Kaypakkaya was massacred under torture on 18 May 1973, his name was scratched to the minds of people as a revolutionary who "gives his head but not divulges secrets".

MLCP, formed by our predecessors those who came from 1971 revolutionary movement and came close to each other in time trough ideological springing, has shown -just after its foundation- that it has taken and tried to develop the '71 revolutionary movement's positive revolutionary culture. The Gazi resistance, the resistances in the prisons, the funerals of Hasan Ocak, a founder member of our Party, Sibel Yalcin, a DHKC fighter and Ridvan Karakoc, a Kurdish patriot, have represented the good examples of the comradeship in barricades, the revolutionary solidarity and the united fight against the enemy in the second half of the '90s'.

MLCP develops their heritage of comradeship in barricades. This culture shows itself in the defence of the people -who become the subject of an attack- with the attitude "all of us are Kurds" and "all of us are Palestinian", by selling Ekmek ve Adalet newspaper when it is attacked, selling Atilim newspaper all together when it is attacked, in the defence of 46 ESP activists who are imprisoned, or in the defence of TAYAD against the chauvinist attacks and lynch attempts by saying "all of us from TAYAD".

This culture shows itself in the defence of all disappeared people under police custody in the campaign for disappearances, in the commemoration of Bill Bland, an English communist, and Palestinian martyrs, in the defence of the imprisoned people of Spanish PCE (r), in the defence of imprisoned journalists and in the organisation of campaigns for all political prisoners.

MLCP remembers the '71 revolutionary leaders Deniz, Mahir and Ibo by learning from and developing the revolutionary devotion, solidarity and comradeship in barricades that created by the '71 revolutionary movement.
