The fire of struggle lightened by the workers in Chicago in 1886 have been celebrated in its 119th anniversary in tens of cities and towns of Turkey and Northern Kurdistan through participation of hundreds of thousands of workers and labourers with joy. Marxist Leninist Communists, who called upon the workers and labourers to take the streets through condense mass work before the international proletariat's day for unity, solidarity and struggle, have also attracted all attentions by continuing on the line of legitimate struggle and by their mass participation, discipline, banners, placards and joy on the assembling points and demonstrations.
During the preparatory activities which went on until the morning of May Day, besides numerous central and regional propaganda and agitation materials, in some cities also the communist women issued leaflets. They went from house to house, distributed leaflets and called upon the working and labouring women to demonstrate on May Day in the ranks of the Party. In the leaflet which was distributed on 29 and 30 April in Istanbul with the signature "MLCP Communist Women", the following call has been made:
"Working and labouring Women, students and pupils!
Come on to the streets on this May Day together with the communist women in order to protest against unemployment, privatization and injustice, to cry out the pain and anger together with the women murdered or violates together with oppressed sisters and brothers in Iraq, in order to unite with the spirit of resistance of the mothers who educate stone generals in Palestine, to fraternize with the patriotism of the Kurdish women, to strengthen the will to fight of the women burnt and assassinated in the prisons but who never could been forced down to their knees85 For us, for our future, our dignity, in order to show our will for revolution and socialism. Unite your hands, your hearts and your desires under the flag of the Marxist Leninist Communist Party."
The most crowded celebration for May Day in our geography was organised in Istanbul, the centre of labour, by participation of more than 100 thousand workers and labourers. The workers, who were forced to organise their celebrations in Abide-i Hurriyet Square, isolated from the people of town, for many years since the revolutionary May Day of 1996 because of the State prohibition, have carried out this year's celebrations in Kadikoy Square following the break of status quo by Sarachene last year. In celebrations which were well attended by DEHAP (Democratic People's Party), ESP (Socialist Platform of the Oppressed), EMEP (Labour's Party) and HOC (Front for Rights and Freedoms), the masses have expressed their anger against the chauvinist hysteria that is re-increased by the fascist dictatorship, the neo-liberal attacks carried out by the government and the imperialist occupation continuing in Iraq.
While having banners such as "Raise the Struggle against Unemployment, Injustice and Privatization", "Revolution is the Only Way", "May Day Should be Accepted as the Official Paid Public Holiday" and "Stop the Cell and Isolation Terror in Prisons", the ESP contingent have also carried the pictures of revolutionary martyrs who lost their lives in the cause of revolution and socialism.
The forces of the Marxist Leninist Communist Party, which is con-sidered as illegal by the fascist regime, have also expressed themselves with banners and flags in the Kadikoy Square. Thousands of workers, labourers and young people have shouted slogans such as "For the victory of revolution, long live MLCP", "Workers to the Party, to MLCP" and "Martyrs live, MLCP Fights" by gathering around the banners and flags opened by the MLCP militias, whose faces were covered with masks. In their agitation and speeches at the Square, MLCP militias have called on masses to fight against capitalism, imperialism and fascism, and to join in the ranks on the MLCP.
In Izmir, more than 50 thousand people attended the celebrations organised in the Alsancak Gundogdu Square. The police barricade which was set up against the people of DEHAP was latter passed over following the short period of clashes with stones and sticks. The Socialist Platform of the Oppressed (ESP) attended to the march in the Konak Sumerbank side where the KESK (Confederation of Public Labourers' Unions) was also appeared. In very front of the ESP contingent, which attracted all attentions as a result of their joy, the picture of workers' leader Suleyman Yeter, who was murdered under torture, was carried together with a banner writing "Revolution is the Only Way against the Unemployment and Injustice". MLCP militias, who opened a banner saying "Freedom, Justice and Equality to the Peoples", later organised a rally together with chanting slogans for about 45 minutes amid masses. The people saluted MLCP militias with applauses.
In Mersin, where the State provoked a 84flag provocation" before and in Trabzon, where lynch attacks took place, on May Day the brotherhood of the peoples was underlined.
On the May day meetings, ESP made subject the imperialist war, the developping struggle of the peoples of Ecuador and Latin America, the struggle of the revolutionary prisoners, the resistance of the SEKA workers (Paper factory of the State), and TEKEL (Factories of the state in the branch of tobacco and alcohol production) against the attacks on the working class.
The 2005 May Day, which has pointed out the gradual strengthening of the revolutionary movement and the labour movement, also celebrated in many cities of N. Kurdistan such as Amed, Dersim, Antep, Sivas and Malatya. By bringing the forefront the theme of peoples' brotherhood against chauvinism in all these places, ESP have first time participated in the Amed May Day celebrations that is celebrated in de facto manner by 3500 people despite to the police prohibition. ESP forces, who joined in the celebrations with a banner saying "Freedom, Justice and Equality to the Peoples", latter come face to face with police prohibition at the entrance of the assembling point. By bringing to nothing the arbitrary attitude of the police with their determined stance, ESP contingent represented a force that was also felt in the celebration with their disciplined stance and great joy. Some of their slogans such as "Kurdistan will be a grave to fascism" were also shouted by whole people.
At first by acting from the idea of turning May Day celebrations into a respond given by the workers and labourers front to the reactionary- fascist attacks initiated by the fascist dictatorship against the Kurdish people just after the 2005 Newroz, MLCP has also tried and acted in a way to put the SEKA and TEKEL workers' great resistance against the privatisation, the IMF economy politics implemented by the collaborator AKP government, the Zionist occupation in Palestine and the imperialist occupation in Iraq on the workers' and labourers' agendas.
