Our party MLCP took very crucial decisions at its 4th Congress held between August 15 and September 1, 2009 concerning the "women's revolution". The progress formulated as "women's revolution" means the rule of the women, the women marching towards the centre of political life and making the broadest masses of labourer women join the social struggle. March 8 was prepared with this point of view. 01 April 2010 /International Bulletin / No: 92
On the 100th anniversary of March 8, the struggle day of the world labourer women, 10,000s of women went on the streets in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan like all over the world and displayed women solidarity. They raised their demands, problems and determination to struggle. In Istanbul, the celebrations of March 8 took place at Kadikoy Square. At the women's rally on March 6, nearly 7,000 women of different organisations marched with a banner read "Long lives the organised struggle of women on the 100th anniversary of March 8". The women raising their demands against gender discrimination, violation against women, killings and the exploitation of women labour held speeches in Turkish and Kurdish and celebrated March 8 of female workers, women in prisons, house wives, young women, unemployed women, women working at home and female peasants. At the rally the demand was raised for March 8 to be paid holiday. In their speeches, on their banners and posters, the women organisations focused on the impact of war on women and demanded an end to the oppression of the Kurdish people as well as the acceptance of the identity, democratic demands and the right to use the mother tongue. The rally was organised by the March 8 Women's' Platform of Istanbul that consists of the women commissions of women organisations, such as the Democratic Free Women's Movement, ESP Socialist Women Assemblies, Labourer Women's Association, Gokkusagi Women's Association, women of IMECE, EHP , SDP , SP, DİSK , KESK , TMMOB , Tekstil Sen, as well as the unions. Female TEKEL workers joined the rally, too. The biggest rally on March 8 was organised in Diyarbakir that was announced to be a "woman's city" for 3 days by the BDP council. At the rally that was organised on March 8 and that was joined by 10,000 women, a banner with the women leaders pictures read "We are marching for a free world" was carried by the women. Deputies of the BDP and international delegates as well as the women of ESP Socialist Women Assemblies, TMMOB and KESK joined the rally, too. This year March 8 had a special meaning as it was the 100th year that this day was accepted as the Labourer Women's Day by the World Socialist Women Conference. The 100th anniversary of March 8 can be considered as an opportunity to reach a progress in the women's organised struggle. The women defended the history of their struggle and the achievements on the streets. March 8 becoming paid holiday was also one of the demands of labourer women in their struggle. The struggle to make March 8 paid holiday has been carried out in different countries for 100 years, and this struggle was reflected, too, at the celebrations. The fighting female workers of the TEKEL resistance in the last months were a symbol gaining a lot of attention at the celebrations of March 8 in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan. The female TEKEL workers conveyed the spirit of the TEKEL resistance, that is paving the way for others, as well as the vanguard role it played in terms of the labourer women's liberation struggle to the streets of March 8. At the same time; 1,000s of women gathering for the celebrations of March 8 and defending the TEKEL resistance was an answer from the labourer women's front to the need of strengthening the social basis of the solidarity with the TEKEL resistance. Women murders were another topic that was emphasized on at the March 8 celebrations. In our country where even the day before March 8, dozens of women were killed by their husbands, families and boyfriends, the democratic women's movement raises important demands such as taking effective precautions against women murders as well as stopping to temper the punishments as this legitimates patriarchalism and violence by men. The demand of freedom to the Kurdish nation, which is the most important topic of the social struggle and at the same time of our women's movement in our country, was also raised on the streets. The oppression on the Kurdish people was condemned. On the 100th anniversary of March 8, our party MLCP emphasizes the duty of making women movements with a socialist perspective among the world women movements meet, discuss and concentrate on their common points. The World Women's Conference taking place in March 2011 in Venezuela is considered as an important opportunity for that. Our party calls on all progressive, revolutionary and communist women's organisations to participate in the preparatory period of the Women's Conference in 2011 in Venezuela and to meet in Venezuela on March 5-8, 2011. Our party calls to convey the achievements of struggle during the period Match 8 to the preparatory work for Venezuela.
