The "Conference of the Communist and Workers' Parties and Organisations" was held in the Thessalonica city of Greece on 22-24 April 2005. Delegates representing 11 different parties and organisations from countries like Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Romania participated in the Conference. Our party was also among the participants.

In the meeting, which was started with one minute of silence for the martyrs who lost their lives during the fight for revolution and socialism, the first speech was made by the Central Committee representative of the Communist Organisation of Greece (KOE), the organiser of the conference. The KOE representative, who reported on the conditions of anti-imperialist struggle in the Balkans, both emphasized the provocation of national and ethnic conflicts by the imperialists and their local collaborators in the Balkans, and underlined the importance of a regional conference for the anti-imperialist struggle.

In the second item of the agenda, all representatives have concentrated their speeches on the subject of conflict between the revolution and counter-revolution, the situation of workers and labourers and the concrete examples of the anti-imperialist struggle in their own countries. The fact, which became clear after the speeches of the representatives, was that there are economic and social destruction in the Balkans as the consequences of neo- liberal attacks, the existence of heavy unemployment and impoverishment in all countries, and the development of nationalist and chauvinist currencies due to the national, ethnic and religious conflicts that caused by the imperialist interference.

In the conference, the representative of our party MLCP has expressed followings: "The anti-imperialist struggle must be connected to concrete goals. Together with the imperialist aggression and occupation, the struggle must target the international and regional organisations of imperialism such as the NATO, IMF, EU and etc. The anti-imperialist struggle must be pulled into the grounds of achieving results like the drive away of Clinton from Greece by the Greek people, the withdrawal of the 1st March bill (that was giving permission for the USA soldiers to use Turkish lands in their offensive against Iraq) in Turkey, and again the protests against the NATO's Istanbul summit in June 2004. The anti-imperialist struggle must also include the fight against neo- liberal attacks. It is important to establish connection between the Balkans Conference and the political struggle in the region."

In the conference, where main discussions took place on the political situation of Balkans, the perspectives, principles and resolution of the conference, different suggestions have also brought to the agenda. While deciding on the gathering of the Balkan conference for every year, two documents have also been presented to the signatures of the parties. Thessalonica is decided as the centre of the conference. The participants also elected a Coordination Group that involves 3 permanent and 2 substitute members and will come together for once every 3 months.

In the conference, speeches were made also concerning the development of joint attitude of revolutionary and communist parties in the Balkan countries against the reformist front in the ESF and, therefore, to mobilise strong participation in order to improve the influence of the anti-imperialist forces at the 4th European Social Forum which will take place in April 2006 in Athens.

The conference, which brought together many progressive, anti-imperialist, revolutionary and communist parties and organisations that struggle in the Balkans and which played very important role in the development of relations and exchanging of experiences among the participants, at first, showed the common will -that is taking shape between the progressive, anti-imperialist, revolutionary and communist parties in the anti-imperialist struggle- against the national, ethnic and religious conflicts which our people are driven to by imperialist aggressors and their local collaborators.

Through this conference, the first step of the coordination of the anti-imperialist struggle in the Balkans, the Caucasus/ Caspian Sea and the Middle East, which was pointed out by our party for a long period, is being taken in the Balkans. The conference, which we believe that it will serve to the development of true relations among progressive, revolutionary, communist and workers' parties in the region and to the strengthening of the parties those who are communist or open to communism, at the same time, will contribute to the development and advancement of the regional and international anti-imperialist struggle.
