On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of 8 March revolutionary and progressive women's movement from all over the world are calling for an international women's conference in Venezuela. Thousands of women from all continents will meet from 4 to 8 March, 2011 in Caracas, exchange experiences, discuss and strengthen the practical cooperation and solidarity of the working women worldwide.
In many countries and regions like India, Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Mali, South Africa, Morocco, Italy, Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Columbia, Argentina and many others process for the preparation started who are organising the international women's conference together.
In the Middle East, women are also coming together closer and closer in order to strengthen the common mobilisation to Venezuela. For more than 2 years women from the Middle East are committed in the international preparation committee of the conference as well as at regional level in order to develop contacts among the women, organise practical solidarity and to set together an example in Venezuela because the labouring women are not only suffering twice and triple from the capitalist system but they are also a central and indispensable factor of overcoming it. The international women´s conference in Venezuela offers the opportunity to become a significant step for the international organisation of women for revolution and socialism and to bring a bit more to light the huge potential of the revolutionary women's movement not only for their own liberation but for the liberation of the whole society from oppression and exploitation.
In the framework of the preparation of the conference in Venezuela, the first Continental Conference of the Middle East took place from 24 to 26 December, 2010 in Kirkuk, South Kurdistan (North Iraq). 35 women from Iran, Iraq, Kurdistan, Syria and Turkey from 17 organisations met in this city, which became y symbol of contractions among the imperialist powers and their policy to incite the people one against another. The women made clear with their conference in Kirkuk shaken by war and violence that the Middle East is at the same time a centre of resistance of the peoples against imperialist hegemony and oppression and that they are firmly determined in continuing to bravely take their place in the first rows of this diverse struggle.
Meanwhile the women of the Middle East are struggling on one hand for the rights of women; they are at the same time an active part of the social, national and class struggles of the region. Doubtlessly, the Kurdish women's movement in all 4 parts of Kurdistan having rich experiences and achievements won in hard struggles today is the biggest and most dynamic force of women´s struggles in our region. In the common final declaration of the conference the women stated that the Middle East is one of the important centres of the world women movement and apart from many problems women are confronted with, there is also a very strong spirit of resistance. Furthermore, it says "We, the women, know that peace, fraternity and freedom in the Middle East will only be possible when women participate in the struggle."
Moreover, the final declaration informs about the decision of organising a women's conference of the Middle East in order to transform the women's movement, which despite of counting with strong dynamics in the single countries is still dispersed at regional level, into a strong and influential force and in order to strengthen coordination and common acting of the women's movement of the Middle East. The need of a common, concrete and practical programme of actions has been underlined.
One of the first decisions of practical cooperation is to support together the protest against the execution of Zeynep Celaliyan, Sakina Mahmudi Astiyani and many more women sentenced to death and being in high danger of execution in Iran. For the further coordination of work a committee of three organisations has been elected and it was underlined that efforts will be intensified to win more women movements of the region for the participation in the process.
At the conference lasting for three days and concluding with a press conference, not only the concrete preparation of the World Women Conference in Venezuela, but also many other important topics of the women's movement have been discussed in an atmosphere of solidarity. At the comprehensive report about the situation of the women's movement in the single countries many things in common become evident and also the urgent need of a closer and long-term cooperation also beyond the World Women Conference in March 2011 in Venezuela. Without doubt, the conference in Kirkuk was an important first step in that direction an others will follow.
