The collaboration of the colonialist fascist dictatorship with the US imperialism, which attempts to make Turkey a war base in the Middle East including the missile shield, the option of sending Turkish soldiers to Afghanistan and elsewhere and maybe also an active participation in a potential intervention in Syria, is as close as ever.

In the Middle of September, the Prime Minister of the fascist regime Tayyip Erdogan visited those North African countries, where dictators of many years have been overthrown recently. Starting from Egypt he continued to Tunisia and Libya propagating self-confidently the "Turkish Model" as a solution for those countries and claiming openly a significant role of Turkey and its interest in the future of the whole region.
Following that trip, the bourgeois representatives of the fascist dictatorship travelled to the US and to Germany, where they continued their crusade for a Turkey as a regional power. Last but not least, these trips have been rounded off for now with the visits of the FBI chief and afterwards the general chief of staff of Britain coming to Turkey.
The Turkish bourgeois state tried during all these activities to strengthen its position as an important player of the Middle East by increasing its economic relations and political impact in the region and to get more support from its imperialist masters; first of all the US, in their attempts of liquidating the Kurdish national movement, which continues to be one of their most important strategic aims.
During the stay of Erdogan in Egypt he successfully tried to increase his popularity by pretending to be the fiercest defender of the Palestinian people attacking Israel rhetorically. Beginning with the confrontation of Tayyip Erdogan with the Israeli president Shimon Peres in 2009 in Davos and culminating with the incidents of the Mavi Marmara in May 2010, the relations between the two main collaborators of US imperialism in the region seem to be more than tensioned. This situation escalated again shortly before the trip of Erdogan in the context of the UN report about the Mavi Marmara and Israel rejecting to apologize for the killing of 9 Turkish citizens at the ship. Another topic of tension was the fact that Israel is not sending back the Unmanned Air Vehicles sent there for repair, which are needed for the new wave of the dirty war in Kurdistan right now.
The AKP government skilfully manages to profit from its contradictory looking relation with Israel. On the one hand, the regime in Ankara never really thought or will think about breaking the close military and commercial relations with Israel and none of the many bilateral agreements has been cancelled, however with their continuous rhetorical attacks it managed on the other hand to make the Arab people believe in its "consequent opposition" to Israel using their legitimate opposition against the Zionist state of Israel for its own hegemonic aims.
Everybody knows, that confrontation with Israel means confrontation with the US imperialism, therefore the popularity of the AKP government is almost gaining an "anti-imperialist" image in the world, however exactly this image is one of the reasons those make Turkey so useful for the US imperialism. Israel has been isolated from the beginning on and not able to fulfil the role needed by the US in order to apply its geostrategy in the region. The moderate Islamic model of Turkey combining Islam and the common traditional and cultural elements based on the Ottoman historical background throughout the region with Western capitalism's understanding of bourgeois democracy is much more appropriate in order to influence the region in the Obama way. Furthermore, Turkey has a significant military power and war experience which can be used also for imperialist interests. In this sense, there is also the aspect of real competition between Israel and Turkey, but this has nothing to do with defending Palestine or the struggle of the Arab people for freedom and democracy but is a competition of being the most favourite collaborator of the US including the side-effect of increasing its own power. Turkey is aware of the advantages of good relations with the Arab countries and is trying to sell this and its geostrategic position and war power as expensive as possible claiming in return support against the Kurdish freedom movement.
While the relations between two countries follow this course, the Cyprus government announced that they have begun exploratory drilling for oil and gas in the South Mediterranean, the incident which caused a new tension in the relations. The Turkish state showed face in the Mediterranean Sea with warships in order to deal with the situation, while the USA and the EU are closely interested in the on-going problem, since it is definitely clear that the Cyprus government would not dare take such step without -at least- the compliance of them. This is another proof that the EU and the US imperialism do not gamble for only one horse in the Middle East and try to keep up with what US strategists call "plurality" in the Middle East.
The self-confidence of the Turkish bourgeois state resulting from the relatively strong politic and economic position was also reflected during the state visit of president Abdullah Gul in Germany these days, where he stated that while the EU is in crisis, Turkey has today more political influence in the international arena as the whole EU together. The Turkish economy, which is currently in place 17 worldwide and in place 6 in Europe, is the fastest growing economy worldwide in the first 6 month of 2011 with a growth rate of 10, 6%. As usual, the Turkish Prime Minister, trying to make use of the growing political and diplomatic influence, was accompanied by many businessmen on his trip to Egypt, Tunisia and Libya. Also the cultural/ideological expansion has been forwarded by the opening of a new Yunus-Emre-Institute in Cairo during the stay of Erdogan. Since 2009, branches in 14 countries have been opened, mostly in the Balkans and the Arabic countries. In the field of media, since 2009, the Turkish television channel TRT-Avaz of the state channel TRT can be received in the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It is broadcasting in different Turk languages and also in the Arabic world the Turkish television is broadcasting 24 hours in Arabic as TRT el-Turkiye reaching approximately 350 million people.
However not everybody is happy with the growing influence of Turkey in the Middle East; the mullah regime in Iran, parts of the ruling classes in Egypt, especially from the army and also the reactionary regime in Saudi Arabia are observing this development with concern, because despite all collaboration, they consider Turkey as a rival for their own hegemonic plans.
The relations among the bourgeois Turkish state and the Assad regime in Syria are also ambiguous; on the one hand the imperialist forces approach quite cautiously to a concrete intervention in such country as Syria which is so crucial for the balance of powers in the Middle East, since they have not been able to create an alternative power that would ensure them a change in the balance of powers on their favour, and on the other hand, they want to continue with tightening the circle around Syria through different methods, and they try to push the Turkish state forward for this aim. It has been clear that the Turkish bourgeois state has left the speeches about "zero-problem" with the neighbours. However, despite the fact that the missile shield that will be deployed in Turkey targets Iran in favour of Israel in the short term and Russia in the middle/long term, the Iranian state is in very close relations with Turkey and USA on the basis of the plans for the liquidation of PKK . This is related with the colonialist interests of Iran which includes Eastern Kurdistan on its territories as well as its searches for having word on a possible corridor that would be formed in Southern Kurdistan after the planned liquidation or weakening of PKK, in order to hinder that such corridor should turn against it.
A few days after his trip to Cairo, Tunis and Tripoli, where Erdogan also ensured a close cooperation with the new regime, he went to New York in order to participate in the meeting of the UN and have talks with Obama. Similar to the Bush-Erdogan meeting in November 2007, one of the main topics was the joint activity against the Kurdish national movement and the relations with Israel and the planned missile shield. During the visits of FBI chief James Clapper and afterwards the general chief of staff of Britain David Richards to Turkey, the discussion of the details of the collaboration, first of all concerning a land operation against South Kurdistan and the NATO Missile shield, has been continued behind closed doors.
The fact, that the regime in Ankara is also voicing its own expansionists and colonialist interest in the region, first of all against the national Kurdish movement, is not contradicting to that and does not mean at all, that it is able to act independently. On the contrary, a strong, influential and loyal collaborator like the current fascist Turkish regime perfectly fits in the Greater Middle East concept of the US imperialism.
