Reactionary power struggle in Iraq: Mosul has fallen

On 10th of June the combatants of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) seized the City of Mosul without facing any considerable resistance. Afterwardsthey conquered the cities Telafer, Samarra, Selahaddin etc. as well as the biggest refinery in Iraq and plan to invade Bagdad now.

 

ISIS has joined the Syrian War 2011 and organized itself in alliance with the El-Nusra front. Besides the 'Free Syrian Army' (FSA) and other islamist organizations this organization has been supported by the Saudi Kingdom, the Emirate of Qatar and Turkey with money, weapons, training camps and permission to pass their borders. The European and American imperialists, which intend to overthrow the Baath-Regime in Syria, support them. The head of CIA did not hesitate to declare publicly that they 'build up very good movements in Syria together with Turkey' during his stay in Turkey.


Turkey reached that ISIS (as well as El-Nusra and FSA) does not only fight the Baath-Regime, but also the democratic revolution carried out by the Syrian Kurds in Rojava, in which our party MLCP participates as well. For this reason hundreds of revolutionaries and civilians died. One of those murdered by ISIS was the combatant of our party, Serkan Tosun. But ISIS was defeated by the peoples of Rojava, the parties guiding them and the YPG (People's Protection Units).

 

ISIS' fights in the Sunnite Arab city Felluce in early 2014 culminated in the conquest of Mosul on 10th June. Now they plan to continue the war in Bagdad. The conquest of Mosul was supported by the trio of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Hakan Fidan, the chief of MIT (National Intelligence Agency of Turkey), mentioned that Turkey has supported organizations that fight Assad, primarily ISIS, with 2000 truckloads of weapons and ammunition.


Why did the reactionary states of the region support ISIS in seizing Mosul? Did ISIS fight the war, which ended with the conquest of Mosul and its soroundings all on its own? The Saudi Kingdom, Turkey and the Emirate of Qatar agreed in this war to bring the Baath-Regime in Syria down. They also supported the war jointly to overthrow the Maliki government in Iraq, which has good relationsship with the Iranian mullahs. Mainly by Turkey Barzani (chairman of the Kurdish autonomy in Southern Kurdistan) was also drawn into this alliance.

 

The American and European imperialists use this war to force Maliki to become reconciled himself with the Sunnite rulers in Iraq.

 

When Mosul militarily fell, ISIS wasn't alone. The Naqshbandi-Army (a Sunnite islamist sect), the big tribe's militias, Ensar es Sunne (before known as Ensar El Islam – an armed Kurdish islamist organization) and little armed forces sorounding them conquered Mosul together with ISIS. To factors were decisive when it comes to analyzing the support of the Sunnite people. Firstly: The persecution by Maliki was no longer to be endured by the Sunnite Arab people. Therefore it welcomed the force necessary to remove army and police forces of Maliki from the region as its savior. Secondly: Especially the tribal leader, the old Baathist do have a lot of influence among the Sunnite people. They are also supported by the people and formed part of the movement that defeated Mosul.

 

ISIS cannot hope for a victory in Bagdad. Allthough it gathers combatants from all the islamic countries as a panislamist force, controls an area from Rakka to Mosul and has formed an alliance with influential Sunnite organizations.


Because of the massacres on Shiite Arabs, Kurds in Rojava and their dictatorial attitude towards the people it cannot gain a big support from the masses. Also it may win some Sunnite Arabs as militants because of the persecution policy of the Maliki dictatorship, but this limited support will not be enough to take over the power in Iraq.

 

ISIS won't be able to maintain its hegemony inside of the Mosul alliance either. US imperialism has sent its foreign minister J. Kerry immediately to Hewler, the capital of Southern Kurdistan, and to Bagdad. It seems that the USA try to reconcile the Shiite with the Sunnite ruling classes. Hence they could also try to form a loose federal Iraq with or without Maliki by setting up a reactionary government, which guarantees the self-determination of Sunnite Arabian provinces. If the USA would be successfull of course they woulddemand from the Arabian rules, to leaveISIS, smash them military and force them to fight in Syria again.

 

Currently it's not the first priority to divide Iraq in three.

 

Hence American imperialism down to the present day has proven through its practice that the Iraqian peoples should not hope for anything but subjugation, plundering and persecution – no matter which force will be hegemonial and oppose its reactionary solution.

 

The peoples of Iraq and Syria must not be victimized to the power struggle of the reactionaries and the imperialist occupation. For their liberation they have to walk along the path of struggle.
